Institute of Physical Engineering

The Institute of Physical Engineering (IPE) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Brno University of Technology, is a leading center for research and education in physics and nanotechnology. We offer specialized study programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Our core activities include research in surface physics and nanostructures, optics, precision mechanics, micromechanics of materials, and technical acoustics.

IPE collaborates closely with the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC BUT), providing our students and researchers access to state-of-the-art facilities and technologies. Through international cooperation with leading research institutions and the successful acquisition of prestigious grants, we continually push the boundaries of scientific knowledge.

Doctoral school

The doctoral program at the Institute of Physical Engineering offers you the opportunity to push the boundaries of current knowledge in nanotechnology, applied physics, and materials engineering. With access to institute laboratories and close collaboration with CEITEC BUT, you will have state-of-the-art infrastructure at your disposal for your research. Throughout your studies, you will be guided by experienced scientists and industry professionals. Research topics are often closely linked to leading industrial partners.

The doctoral program at the IPE also offers opportunities for further development through specialized courses, involvement in teaching physics, preparing educational materials, and even supervising undergraduate students. A key component of the doctoral experience with us is the opportunity to spend several months at one of our partner research institutions abroad.
