Visit at the onsemi site at Rožnov pod Radhoštěm

Students, PhD candidates, and employees from the Institute of Physical Engineering recently participated in an inspiring visit to onsemi in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. Representatives of the company began by introducing onsemi as a key player in semiconductor technology, with a focus on innovative solutions for energy-efficient applications, particularly in high-performance systems and the automotive industry.

Following this introduction, a series of expert lectures took place. One of the main topics covered was silicon carbide (SiC), a critical material for demanding applications that enables higher efficiency and reliability under extreme conditions. Presenters highlighted the technological processes of SiC production and its applications, providing us with a deeper understanding of how this material is used in practice. The presentations also focused on the challenges associated with implementing SiC in manufacturing and the technological solutions onsemi has adopted to overcome them.

After the theoretical segment, we proceeded with a virtual lab tour, followed by an actual visit to the clean rooms. This allowed us to see firsthand the environment where these technologies are developed and applied. Our hosts were very open and friendly, enabling us to engage in in-depth discussions on various technological processes and the equipment they use. They answered our many questions willingly, enhancing our understanding of the processes and challenges involved in semiconductor material production.

This visit was immensely valuable to us, not only in terms of gaining technical knowledge but also as an inspiration for our future projects and research activities. We warmly thank onsemi for their hospitality, openness, and the opportunity to gain insight into the world of modern semiconductor technologies, which are essential for the future of energy-efficient applications.
